Our campaign is sending our first mail piece next week and is available for preview.
Here's an the text of the letter that is being included in the mail piece. It best frames the message we are trying to communicate to the voters of Guilford County:
I grew up in Guilford County, I come from a family entrenched in the civil rights movement. I learned the value of public service at an early age. I currently live in High Point, and I understand the need for real representation for all of District 60.
This is why I’m running for office today— to make politics more responsive and responsible to YOU, the voters and residents of North Carolina. Representation is the key component to our campaign, as I believe we need to represent the entire district.
I got my education at Southern Guilford High School and North Carolina A&T, where I learned how to be a strong community member and leader. Earl Jones has been a very public figure here in Guilford County for many years, but we have to ask ourselves if he is representing our community.
My opponent, Earl Jones wants to talk about video poker as a solution for our jobs crisis. I believe that we can do more to create jobs by fighting for stimulus dollars that have been allocated to our state for job growth. We must invest in transit that connects the triad with better access. I believe that that we need to bring healthcare reform to the state of North Carolina. On education, we need to focus on creating solutions based on individual student and not a focus on the collective. There are many conversations we can have to move our community forward, but video poker is not one of them. This race isn’t about Earl Jones. It’s not even about Marcus Brandon. It’s about you!
My family and friends have taught me a lot about faith. I believe in positive change no matter how difficult. Whether we can see it or not, it is about understanding that people have the ultimate power and the government’s role is to create an environment and space that harnesses that power. That is what I intend to do when elected to the North Carolina House in District 60.
Part of making the slogan "It's About You" into a reality, though, means that we have to communicate with as many voters in District 60 as possible. That's where you come in. We need your help so we can send this mail piece to as many voters as possible so we can broaden the dialogue and encourage civic engagement.
Please, contribute $25, $50, or $100 today so I can send this mail piece to voters.
Together, we can continue to have these necessary conversations with voters. Together, we can bring the message of quality education, healthcare reform, green jobs, and real representation all the way to the ballot box and beyond.
It’s About You,
Marcus Brandon
Candidate for NC House District 60
