The market for Green Collar Jobs is growing despite the credit crunch and financial turmoil that is hitting markets around the globe. Green Collar jobs are usually found in areas of sustainable engineering, renewable energy and social responsibility. Guilford County is poised to be an excellent location for a green job corridor, much in the same way that Research Triangle has become a hub for public / private ventures in scientific development.
Our healthcare system is broken, and the only fix is very simple: Single Payer, Not For Profit Healthcare at the state level for NC. That is why I will introduce the "North Carolina Healthcare Act" which will establish a single payer system for North Carolina.
To win this fight, we must emphasize tremendous fiscal benefits of state-based single payer system. The potential savings on paperwork, more than $1.5 billion per year in the state of North Carolina alone, are enough to provide comprehensive coverage to everyone without paying any more than we already do.
North Carolina has always been leader in transportation innovations. Our natural resources in tar led to our state providing infrastructure of roads and bridges across the country. Our Outer Banks saw the first in flight innovation. Our state had significant input on our rail system. Today as we examine how our state recovers from a bad economy and record unemployment rates, going back to our roots is the solution to many of these problems.
As your representative I want to be your voice to Raleigh and not a voice from Raleigh. For too many years we have allowed out elected officials go to the state capitol and never ask us, or represent our ideas or our values.
I am running for office because I believe in the power of the individual as a collective to make change. As your representative it is my job to create a space to allow for individuals to create power to better their family, neighbors, and community.
As your representative I will champion an amendment to our state constitution that makes equality in education in North Carolina a constitutional right.
Quality education is critical to the future prosperity of our children. What this amendment will do is enable families, teachers, and students to have the legal backing to demand a quality education from our government. Currently, there is no remedy for the citizens of North Carolina to address failing schools, which is why it is so important that we amend our constitution to reflect our commitment to affordable, quality education. Education is too important to be neglected, which is why we need a State Representative who is serious about improving our schools, and putting Guilford families first.
