In a glowing endorsement, The Rhinosceros Times said that "Brandon makes some really good points" and "can move discussion into 21st Century".
The following article appeared in the Thursday, April 29 issue of the Rhinosceros Times:
State Rep. Earl Jones is being challenged by Marcus Brandon. Jones brags about bringing funding back to Greensboro for the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, which is the museum he founded with Chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners Skip Alston. Here is what Jones says about the job the state legislature has done: "We haven't done a good job, we have done an excellent job."
Jones also talks a lot about how taxing video poker would be the salvation for education funding. The video poker industry is one of the reasons that former Speaker of the House Jim Black got in trouble and eventually ended up in prison. The video poker industry has contributed heavily to Jones' campaign. Having a representative from Greensboro who is beholden to the video poker industry isn't going to help anyone except Jones and the video poker industry.
Brandon makes some really good points. He said that the state had been working on the achievement gap since he was in kindergarten and hasn't done anything about it and it was time to stop throwing money at the problem. He also said, "it is time to move beyond the lunch counter and the picket line."
If you want to move beyond the picket line and lunch counter discussion and into the 21st century, then Brandon is your man. Since we don't think that the state government is doing an excellent job, we're going to support Brandon over Jones.
